Hualapai Mountain Park, Mohave County Parks: The Hualapai Mountains rise about 5000 feet above Kingman to the south, and this county park, with a campground, picnic areas, rental cabins, and hiking trails, is a good place to experience them. It is less than 15 miles from town, near the end of (appropriately enough) Hualapai Mountain Road, which starts in Kingman at the junction of Andy Devine Avenue and Stockton Hill Road. The website is the official information source and includes rates and fees, and a description of the facilities.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area: The closest, southern portions of the National Recreation Area encompass Lake Mohave and Davis Dam, and are about 35 miles west of Kingman. The closest parts of the shoreline of Lake Mead itself are about 75 miles north. These large reservoirs offer boating, swimming, and fishing opportunities, and the lands surrounding them the chance to hike, camp, picnic, and view desert plants and wildlife. This is the official site with detailed information on facilities, activities, and regulations.

Mojave National Preserve: The official National Park Service website is full of great information on activities, history, geography, resources, management, planning documents, and more. It is the site to go to for answers to most of your questions about the Preserve, which is a vast, diverse desert region 70 to 140 miles west of Kingman. It can be a great place to see spring wildflowers, or to enjoy in the late fall or winter, when temperatures are cooler.

|
Mojave National Preserve: An unofficial site created by Mindbird Maps & Books. Includes information and particularly photos not on the official site, with a photo tour of the region and many images of the area's plants.

Flagstaff Convention & Visitors Bureau: Flagstaff is a great place to get up in the tall pines and away from the summer heat or to play in the snow in the winter. It is about 150 miles east of Kingman via Interstate 40. Flagstaff's historic downtown area in particular has the character of age, and many fascinating places to shop and to dine. The area is surrounded by National Forest with many choice hiking trails. This CVB website will get you started on what to see and do.

Official Grand Canyon National Park site. Kingman is blessed in being within a few hour's drive of a geological phenomenon generally considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world: Grand Canyon. Grand Canyon Village along the South Rim is about 175 miles from Kingman. (Grand Canyon West—is less than 70 miles—see below.) There are campgrounds and lodging both at Grand Canyon Village, and immediately outside the park, as well as a large grocery store, many restaurants and snack bars, and free shuttlebus service. There are trails ranging in difficulty from easy to difficult to extremely difficult (with nothing in between the easy and difficult ranges!) The park website is loaded with information to prepare you for a safe and exciting visit.

Grand Canyon West: Skywalk. This is a colloborative project between a private party and the Hualapai Tribe, and is essentially a U-shaped steel bridge that extends out over a sheer cliff of western Grand Canyon. To make things more exciting, the floor of the Skywalk is a clear window that enhances the sense of depth without even having to look over the railings! This website shows images of the structure and describes the state of the progress of support facilities being developed there.

Northern Arizona Flora is an expanding website created by the publisher of the website you now view, and features hundreds of good to excellent images of wild plants growing in northern Arizona. For the more technically inclined, there is a comprehensive scientific catalog of plants arranged by family, with the distribution of each taxon noted. Beginners can just go directly to the photo image index and browse the pictures.

Know of a website related to attractions within 200 miles of Kingman you can recommend? Send me an email, and I'll give it consideration. All inclusions are based on my judgment of the site's quality; I don't do link exchanges on a quid pro quo basis. I won't include sites which I believe to be too cluttered with advertising, but welcome those that in some way add to the selection. Sites specifically about Kingman will be in the directory section—though I won't include any created by companies not based in Kingman.
